On the opening page this morning was an instruction article about how to change the front tire on a Harley.
It basically said, "jack up your bike, remove tire, put on new tire, test ride."
WTF! Is that all there is to it? If its that simple I'll do it every day.
I was really hoping for some tips on getting the old tire off the rim and the new tire back on. The difference between cast rims and spoke rims? How about balancing?
Disappointed with article.
I'm giving it a shot at changing myself. For way less than the price of tire and install at a shop, I got the tools and a tire from Jake Wilson. Using dyna-beads.
I just changed front and rear on mine, but I take the wheels off and take them to Harley to get the tires replaced. I have changed them before, and it is just easier to do it at the Harley shop. They charge $22.50 labor to change them, and to me its worth it. I repack the wheel brgs. at the same time. I just love new tires.
I'll disagree with that. I've been riding on handmounted tires for nearly 20 years and never balanced one. I just line the sidewall dot up with the valve stem and go. My bikes ride smooth and tires last a good life....If I ever get a vibrator, sure, I'll pull it off and have it balanced, but it ain't happened yet.
