I was just quoted a price from a dealer for new tires. The price is more than I can afford at this time. I do most of my own service work but have never replaced tires on a MC. How hard is it to change and balance tires on spoke wheels. What tools will I need?
It can be a PITA if you have never done this before.
If you want to save some money, remove the wheels and go to a motorcycle accessory store that sells tires and have them change the tires.
I agree with 1flhtk4me. I did my own tyres for many years, especially when punctures were much more common and I have changed tubes on the roadside, but no more. Modern tyres are bigger and a darned sight stiffer than they used to be and put up quite a fight to stay right where they are!
An expert will make it look easy. Don't believe your eyes, unless you use similar equipment! I take my Harley wheels to my local Yamaha dealer and drink their coffee while they supply and fit my new tyres. It's the best way!
Thanks. On another post I found the motorcycle superstore and thier preferred installer program. I can order the tires I want on line, have them delivered to a local inde and have them installed. Overall savings is $300. I'll look for the coffee pot.
