I am a recently new Harley owner and relatively new to this forum. I just bought an '09 ultra classic and new I would need tires soon. This did not bother me as I wanted to change them out from the regular black tires to the wide white wall.
I guess I figured this would be easy because they must make these in sets for this bike, right? Nope.
I have looked at all makers and none come in matching sets in the sizes for that bike.
What should be used is a front 130/80 B17 and the rear 180/65 B16
The closest i can find is from Dunlop. They have a D407 series for the rear. Exact same size. The only front one I can find is a slightly different size being at a 140/80 B17 and also being the D404 series
I believe the size difference to be minimal and will work. But there are 2 different tread patterns. After comparing the two it appears to me that they may be compatible but then again maybe I am just being hopeful
Has any one experienced this before and how did things work out?
What do you more experienced HD owners think if I combine those 2?
Thanks
John

I had a bad 407F on my front(cupping). Originally I thought they replaced it with
a D408 but later I realized the new tire was a D409F. ('09 RKC) However, I can't find
a 409 listed on Dunlop's cataloge on-line. You might ask about your tire size in the WWW 409's, either dealer or directly with Dunlop.
Front has reverse tread pattern from rear. No problems so far.

Reason: answer original question:
I have talked with my service manager at the dealership I go to. He did not have an answer but said he would find out. Still waiting
Talked to Dunlop. What a waste of time. Person I spoke to said they do not make wide white walls for my bike. When I asked him about mixing and matching the 2 tires he had no clue. All he could do was read me a standard list of features of each tire
So now I am hoping someone here has tried it and knows. I might just try it anyways
