Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. The 08 wheels will have 25mm metric ID bearings, while your bike currently has inch or 3/4" ID bearings. So they won't fit straight in, but may do if you swap bearings, which you may be able to do using your existing wheels.
It would be worth calling in on the Softail forum here and taking a look around. Someone over there may have already done what you want to do.
