Default Front sprocket offset

Hey guys,

I have a build thread up in the softail forum, "crazy monster".

I have a situation going on, long story, but it is all spelled out in the build thread.

Without getting into all the details, How much offset can a front sprocket take?? I would figure anything up to a 1/2" would probably not be a big deal. Anything over that seems like it would not be able to be done without starting to talk about spacing out the primary, which I dont even want to think about.

Any info appreciated.

The front pulley is much wider than the belt and fills much of the space between the trans and primary cases. So if you don't want to move the primary, you can move the belt line a little closer to the primary, or use a narrower belt and gain on the reduced belt width. I replaced my 1 1/2" stock belt with a later spec 1 1/8", which also involved a swingarm swap, although not as radical as you are working with.

An alternative is to go to a chain drive, but even that is playing with small amounts of extra room. The next and expensive possibility is a cross-over trans, where the rear drive pulley/sprocket is on the right of the bike, which should open up the options for you.

Thanx for the info. I am switching to chain drive, so I was curious how far out the sprocket could be offset if I had one made.

Offset sprockets are available on Ebay! Worth taking a look. Plenty of info on the ads there, which should help you pin down the max offset you can use.
