I am new to Harley's and just picked up a mint 86 Softail Custom. It needs a new back tire and I would like a little wider one than the 130/90-16 thats on it now. I am wondering if a 150/80-16 will fit without any other modifications?
Hi and welcome to HDF. Probably not! You may be able to squeeze in an MU, 140/85-16.
The things that limit tyre size are rim width and belt clearance. A 150 will fit your stock 3" rim, but take a close look at where your belt and tyre are closest to each other. You need a minimum of 10mm or 3/8" clearance, plus a bit extra to be on the safe side, say 1/4". Even without your belt guard I doubt if you have that.
