So, I was wondering...
You get a lot of different opinions when you ask about tires... and on my streetglide it's not an issue but on my Nightster I like to run it hard and I want tires that will be able to keep grip when I'm going through twisties... I won't worry about her slipping out from under me. But yeah, I'm open to any suggestions on tires and don't castrate me for this question but has anyone run streetbike tires on a HD?
Also, I know when I worked at Harley years ago a big issue with sportster was the kickstand dragging... Mine drags on just about every left turn I make. (and my pegs too) I also just replaced the spring so it is new but still hangs too low. I just want to know if anyone has come up with a fix for that issue...
thanks,
Lucky
dunlop k 591 are sticky tires. I have some friends that tear up the twistys and swear by bridgstone bt45 tires. a lot of guys will put on taller shocks for more ground clearance in the twistys.
Try Metzeler ME880's or Avon's or Michelin Commander II's. I find them all to be much stickier than any Dunlop.
The k 591 is not your typical dunlop at all. It is much sticker when drag racing then any of the tires mentioned above.
The 591 has been around for years and on other bikes other than harleys too. It is not even in the same ballpark if you compare it to the other dunlop tires. Not even close to a factory 404 or whatever some of those factory hard dunlop tires are.
Its all curvy back country roads where I am I've tried me880s venom, neither came close to 591s at sticking in the corners. And the commander is also being billed as a high mileage tire
I used up 4 sets of Pirelli Night Dragons on a warmed over FXDXT before we parted ways. lived in a place were smooth twisties and mile++ long straights, where WFO mph roads were plentiful, it was a good test track of sorts to compare tires and tuning. Im running Metz's on my Bagger, their OK for that purpose. I also ran various Mez's lines on the DXT and wasn't overly impressed, cords were showing after 4500 miles. I think you'll like the Pirelli's as a great upgrade that last 6-7K miles and their not overly pricy.
For customers w/ your needs we recommend the Pirelli Night Dragon tires. We have gotten really good feedback on how well they handle. Not the longest lasting tire but they are designed for grip.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys... On the budget I have now I ordered the bridgstone bt45... I will in the future try something different. Probably the Avon or the Pirelli next.
Thanks again,
Lucky
