Rear brake sticks
Ok I have not tried anything yet nor am I looking for advice on old school diagnostics I will do all of that when I have 5 min to go in the garage and put it on the lift.
What I am looking for is anyone with a similar problem and what they encountered.
I am at about 15,000 miles.
Front brake works great.
Rear brake acts up only noticed since the weather turned cold.
When I roll out for a ride I have to stop at the top of my somewhat steep driveway. For this I usually just hold the rear brake until I look both ways then go....... It has to do with the angle and the pitch it is better than holding the front brake.
Ok now all of the sudden when I get to the top and hit the brake I have a very stiff pedal and no brakes....... Once I got going I pounded the rear brake and it seamed to give way and works fine for the duration of my ride.
I now hit the brake hard before leaving the driveway to get past the little oh shat moment..... And it is fine.... I am thinking it might be moisture build up or just really worn pads...
It is a decommissioned police bike I bought it will 8000 miles. I put the rest on since may.
Any thoughts.
Pads should still have sufficient material after only 15K miles.
It is the ABS module under the right side cover,
The way I came to this conclusion is this.
I checked the fluid level and it was low,
I filled the master pushed on pedal and opened the Banjo on the master and it bled fine.
I then pushed the pedal and opened the banjo that leads to the ABS unit, it bled fine.
pushed the pedal and opened the banjo going out of module and nothing.
I then hooked my vacuum pump up to the caliper bleeder and cracked it open, pulled pressure and reopened the banjo on the module and the pump pulled fluid thru the caliper.
This all points to the stoppage being contained in the ABS module.
Owners with ABS Bikes beware, it starts with a sticky pedal and leads to no brake at all.
I am assuming there was some moisture in the system witch caused the Piston in the module to stick shut.
Either way I just ordered a used one off eBay and I will change it over and completely flush all fluids Front and Rear, (they both route thru the module)
I will post the results.
