Default Cracking between the treads

Has anyone experienced some cracking between the treads on their tires? I am on my second me880 both started to crack between the treads after 500 miles. I have about 10k on the front ...it has gotten a little worse, but for the most part it has stayed about the same. I have a Metz 888 on the back...10k no cracking. I'll try and post a pict.

Dont know where you bought the tire,I would return the tire.Cracking is a sign of old age,Look for a date on the tire.It should be somewhere.

Check date code on tire.
Do not ride...a blow-out is no fun.

Agreed riding another mile on that tire and your just asking to get hurt or die!
Check date and take back for a refund.....

The only tire I ever saw crack between the treads like that was on a friend's hardtail that he only ran 18 lbs of air in after about 8 thousand miles. That's just weird

Go it from my Indy. The date is 5/13 I bought it in June of 13. Funny ..I ran Ito a guy with a sportster today...he said his front tire was an 880.... And did the exact same thing.

Tires have a date code and an identification number.
Contact the manufacturer and provide a photo.
The manufacturer will probably ship a new tire free of charge.
Tire issues are taken seriously by most manufacturers as something like you are showing could trigger a recall.

Interesting. Did you actually see the date code yourself or is that from the Indy memory or? Two theories on the 880 cracking... Warehousing a long time due to high production or, alternatively, Brazil can't be trusted to produce a quality tire. Both might be urban legend...but too many have been known to crack but They have been good about making it right.

888s have replaced 880s in the catalog, but I couldn't find when they stopped making 880s. I had a set of 880s that I really liked much more than the Dunlops. However, after pulling off the front 880 we discovered the tire was more than 3 years old when first mounted. Dry rot/age does promote cracking, mine was on sidewalls as well as thread.

I had planned to put on 888s but local warehouse said unavailable for over a month so I went with Michelin Commander IIs....very very happy with them but only around 1500 miles to date
