Default Phoenix Roady to Meet Pilot1996, and HDWrench

You may have read that Mac was going to HDWrench's (Steve) house in Phoenix to have his 98" kit installed and that he has been having some trouble with his new GPS. Since I also have the GPS and needed someplace to ride today, I decided to go to Phoenix to meet them and see if I could help him out with the GPS issue and hang out for a bit. I was on the road early and enjoyed a nice cool ride up I-10 to Phoenix. I was kind of early getting there, so I fiddled around for awhile and finally reached Steve's around 8:00. They were getting started on the motor project, so Mac and I started looking at the GPS. I was wiggling and shaking it, trying to get it to act up. As I disengaged the cradle to disconnect it from my bike, I broke it. F*ck! The little tab on the bottom of the cradle that locks it into the hot shoe just snapped off. I don't know why it picked that particular moment to give up, but it did (must be French). I wish it had waited until Mac was messing with it. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that we had decided by this time that it was the cradle that was causing the power issues also, so it must have been defective. Yeah, that's it, it was defective. Mac was going to get it exchanged because of the power issues, but it was at least still usable before I got ahold of it. Sorry Mac, it was not my intent to drive 140 miles to f*ck up your stuff. So now I am officially one of those guys who thinks he knows what he's talking about. Unlike the other Steve, who does know and was making good progress on Mac's motor. But that's Mac's story. I had a great time talking to these guys, and it's funny because even though this is the first time we met face to face, it felt like we were already old friends, and I look forward to meeting up with them again. Here's a picture of the three of us at Steve's house.

Steve,

Sounds like you bike fixing is as good as my road trip planning. LOL.

Glad you had a good visit. I am looking forward to meeting Mac, and I invited HDWrench to try and meet us somewhere next weekend.

Regards,

Bill

Yes, yes, yes.

Steve managed to total my damaged GPS cradle, I really felt bad for the guy, the look on his face was priceless. I'm sitting here smiling as I think about it.[sm=laughat.gif]

He did at one time mumble something about the possiblity of it already having been weak, and ready to break[sm=icon_blah.gif], but...I'm not buying it[sm=innoc.gif], and truth of the matter is, doesn't matter anyway. Did I mention that Steve obviously felt horrible?[sm=itsok.gif]

Things happen, it wasn't intentional, and to Steve's (UltraGeezerGlide) credit, he offered me his[sm=forgetit.gif]. But, after calling around and seeing if any of the local shops would help us out, (NO across the board, as none had any in stock), we called Mark at M&M cycles. He is going to take care of this...end state is that I'm out the GPS for a little while, but hardly the end of the world. (No one is shooting at me right?)[sm=imsmilin.gif]

Enough pouring salt into UltraGeezerGlide's wounds.

The garage that HDWRENCH has is incredible, the tools that he has is even more impressive, but most impressive is the knowledge this "young" man has. I say that because he is 36, a year younger than I, and he seems to know EVERYTHING about the bike, torque settings on every bolt, HOW it all works, WHY it all works, and the man is patient as you could want with a dumb Jarhead that can't read without moving his lips!

This forum is a pretty neat thing. Hanging out with HDWRENCH whom I had never met was like meeting an old friend. The same goes for UltraGeezerGlide, when he showed up, it was as though he had swung by every week for coffee or something. I have thoughts of trying to meet him for breakfast one a month or so, maybe we can do a breakfast in Phoenix and include Tripper and the Reverand as well.

Tomorrow I'll talk to Mark at M&M cycles and figure out what's going to happen with my $500 POS that UltraGeezerGlide "fixed" for me.

Almost forgot, Steve, I have the photos you left at the other Steve's.

UltraGeezerGlide: This one is for you, you'll stop hearing about this once it's all working again![sm=chairshot.gif]

Mac.

P.S. No animals were harmed in the making of this post.

Crap, I didn't even know I left them there. I see a breakfast in Gila Bend in the future.
