I'm fixing to order me a set of forward controls for my 06 FXDI and was just courious as to if the Kuryakyn or H-D forwards would be a better selection. I have heard a few on here say that they had problems with the chrome on their Kuryakyn, but that Kuryakyn took care of the problem and set out new parts. I'm 6'02", 210# with 34" inseam, and was wandering if the Kuryakyn extended length would be a better selection than the standard length models. Thanks for any suggestions,........
I have the Kuryakyn extended (36 inseam) - no issues with the chrome. I was not very happy with the way the shift lever fit on the Kuryakyn spline, and I see others in this forum have had the same issue. Kuryakyn sent me a new splined shaft - it was no better than the first - hammered it on with a rubber mallett. I would think given your inseam length, the extended would fit you best. If you don't know - I guess you could buy the standard HD forwards and try em out, if you needed more, then you could buy the Kuryakyn extensions only - and move them out another couple of inches. Of course this would cost you another $160 or so.
The real answer is that you need to try them both out - of course in the real world - this is impossible.
I have the 3" extended controls and have been happy with them. That being said, I had a fork style tool bag that I mounted between the forward control mounting plates. After a few hundred miles the end of the bag wore through the chrome (I did not think that one through very well). The chrome is soft and thin but that seems to be the case on nearly every new chrome piece I have purchased (EPA chrome). Workmanship and finish are decent but not great. I had trouble finding 3" extended controls and these are very confortable. I have a wide glide and was bunched up on it. 35" inseam 6'3". One thing I noticed was that the leverratio isdifferent than the stock wg fwd's. This creates less shifting force but requires a longer throw. Kury has a bunch of foot peg options that fit too which is nice. Hope this helps.
glide05,
Yeah,... trying them out would definately be nice, but I have afeeling that the extended reach ones from Kuryakyn would be my best choice. I assume that you have the newest version,...the ones Kuryakyn calls their second generation model?
ccmdawg,
I would assume that the standard H-D footpegs will fit on the Kuryakun controls. I would prefer to keep my H-D Flame footpegs and heel supports that I have on my hwy pegs and just transfer them over to the Forwards if possible.

Not sure I have the second generation (got these about 1 year ago). I did run into one issue. I left the old shift shaft on, and the Kuryakyn kit that I used has a rubberized fitting that goes on the old shaft (on the inside) and allows the old shaft to tuck behind the inner primary cover. Well HD redesigned the inner primary and in my model yer (2005) this no longer worked, the shift shaft would no longer clear the inner primary. I called up HD because I knew that the HD kit had a clamp that tied the old shaft to the engine. Was lucky to get to a service tech who had just done one and had a parts breakdown - so I got the HD part for holding down the old shift shaft. Hope that made sense.
Perhaps the 2nd gen resolves this issue? I still have the box everything came in - so if you need more info - I can dig through it.
Once you go to the forwards - you'll never look back. I can't imagine riding with the mids again.
I just bought Kuryakyn fork brace and turn signal mounts, Both have the chrome comming off and I haven't even rode in the rain yet, I am very disappointed in thier quality lately, They must be importing from China.
Yeah I have read on here that some peopl ehave had some problems with the chrome on their Kuryakyn products, but I havent had any probulems with the Kuryakynturn signal clamps that I have.
glide05;
From what I have read,... you probably have one of the first generation models, because the first generation would not fit the 06 later Dynas, and they havent been out quite that long. I will probably go with the extended Kuryakyn forwards if I will be able to use my stock H-D footpeg and heel rests.

I'm with ccmdawg - 6'3"/ 35" inseam and have the Kury extensions laying on my bench ready for install. Can not get the stretch Ineed w/ the stock forwards. I ride about 11,000 miles/yr - gotta be able to stretch out. I also use Kury heel stirrups; not too pretty but comfy!
Everyone is different in this respect; if you can test ride both, that would help. Some feel you loose a bit of control w/ forwards - Personally, I gave up peg-draggin' in the early '80s when I sold my GPZ 1100.
I have the Kury extended controls. I didn't put them on, had it done at purchase, so I can't speak to install issues. I have 10k on the bike and the chrome looks just as good at the day I brought it home.
Also have the Kury fork brace, with 10k on bike, looks perfect.
Kury must have different people working the shop on different days. It seems that some have issues and others do not. However - for those that have issues, I have always heard Kury stands behind their products.
Side note - there are times, on longer rides, I sort of wish I had normal controls with hiway pegs. My legs get restless, and once they are all the way out there, there isn't much more you can do with them. Other than this, I dig 'em and glad I bought 'em.
I've got the Harley set for 06+ dynas, I don't see any issues with them- aside from the install being a total pain in the *** (inner/outer primary has to come out!) - I'll be finishing the install up next week on the shifter side. They look very well built, chrome looks good...
