Tues before memorial day until mem day i willbe on a bike trip in TN, & NC. Ill be riding Deals Gap, Cherahola sky way & parts of the blue ridge parkway, this is my 1st time on all these roads & im super excited, the problem is I have a 05 springer classic & while it is beautiful not much packing room. i have the bags (but they are kind of small) & a luggage rack, I also got the Harley T-Bag, I need to fit a weeks worth of stuff in not much space any suggestions?
Don't take a bunch of extra clothes. Wear older T-Shirts on the way and just discard them when dirty.Buy a T-shirt or two when you get there. About all the motels and campgrounds in the area offer laundry or a washer/dryer. Take leathers a RAIN SUIT and a sweater. If you are camping you might be able to ship/UPS the camping gear to the campground, and then back to home. Think multi-use.
Pack the heavy stuff in the bottom of your saddlebags, light stuff in the T-bags. Pack your rain gear/camera where you can get to it quickly without pulling everything out.
I use the gallon size zip-lock bags to pack one days clothing. You can replace clean with dirty and squeeze the air out to really make them small. Always pack the rain gear where it's easy to get to.
Wilderness outfitters sell high tech fabric t-shirts, underwear, and sox that resist wrinkleing, and you can wash them in the sink at night, through 'em over the shower curtain rod and they'll be dry the next morning. That cuts down to a couple of pair for a trip instead of one per day. I have a couple of tees I bought at REI that are great. They don't get wet when your riding in hot weather like cotton either. I hope to add other items before my next trip.
Also if you roll your clothing instead of folding it, it packs tighter and doesn't wrinkle as much.
My wife used some packing bags like a LARGE ziploc. What a difference. We used about half of the normal space. I think she got them from Target. Packed them full of clothes, sealed them shut and started rolling them up. I think they had a check valve in them that would let the air out as you rolled them up. Very cool!!
