RE: New 2008 Ultra's have IDS for drive line noise!
ORIGINAL: TickTock
Is this the answer to the noise problem?
I believe so for 6th gear clatter for sure. 5th gear whine may be a characteristic some may have to get used to, but even this remains to be seen/heard. Reducing the shock load like so many have speculated sinceday one seems to be coming tofruition.
Points to ponder for me are going to be how much tq/hp will be lost with additional "bolt on" hardware. However, if it will rid my bike of the ever-so-slight 68-72 mph 6th gear clatter on load reducing terrain, which I'm sure it will.......................I'm buying it

wow...so much for HD's line that "we are not making any adjustments to the transmission and there is no fix in the forseeable future.." CRAP
true.
BUT if it does work, at least it is cheaper than a transmission/motor revision that I feared we, as 07 users, would have had to eat. I did expect to eat crow and HD come up with an INTERNAL fix that, again, us '07 users may or may not have been able to acquire, so I welcome this "relatively" inexpensive "fix". I just hope it doesn'tdegrade our 96" TQgain back down to 88" specs.[]

I hear that. it will be interesting...I just put in a call to my stealership and they havnt heard about the "upgrade" yet. They are "looking into it" and will "get back to me"....[&:]

I'm headed to mine as well. It looks like a relatively easy installation and something the DIY'er can tackle. I think the politically correct thing HDshould do would be to initiate a recall or something and give the '07 owners a break, but we all know that is only dreaming. Instead, they priced it juuuuuuuust in the range of being "acceptable" to those that have the noise bad enough toswallow the cost.
I personally don't really need it as my clatter is extremely benign and just barely audible in a very small load reduced range in 6th gear.......................but the idea of annhilating it altogether is quite appealing.
