HI
I just got my Diamond back seat ( made by HD) for my '05 train. I was given a fender tail for it from a buddy. Thing is, it was meant for a DYNA but here's where it gets weird.
According to HD catalogues the part numbers for the tails they sell are the same for Dynas and Softail.

The one I have might be for an older model. They don't seem to offer this one anymore in catalogs. Mine has square cut outs running the length instead of the diamond cut or plain solid chrome. Thing is it bolts on the the seat no problem but then I set in down on the bike to bolt down the rear of the tail to fender and the holes don't line up. It's off by about 5-1/8ths ( too short)

I ended up drilling new holes to bolt on to seat. Tried it again and it fits but I honestly don't like the way the seat locks on bike. It's only held on by the tongue under the tank and the one bolt on the rear fender. Now that's the way the stock seat sits but that all one piece so there's no flex. This seems for have a little wiggle room side to side.
I'm going to get the 'correct' rear tail for it and see it that makes a difference. It might just be a matter of once it's bolted to seat it pushes it forward better and locks it in when you bolt it down in the rear.
I'll get pics up once I get it together.

I bought one from ebay for my NT but sold it again (made a nice profit too heh), I didn't like how it fit either. All the bolts lined up and everything, but it was too wide and it stuck out past the fender struts. I am leaning towards getting a seat from Bar Enterprises.

HI Nighttraingirl
did you have the rear fender tail piece on the seat? If so did you have any wiggle in the seat when it was bolted on or did you just have the seat itself?

Thanks

I had the tailpiece too but I never actually bolted it on, because I could tell I really didn't like how the seat looked just by sitting it on the bike. I didn't want to take the plugs out of the bolt holes under the seat then put the stock seat back on. All the bolt holes lined up though, including with the tailpiece attached to the seat. If you seat has a little play to it maybe you could put something under there like the rubber stuff you line toolbox drawers with? Just an idea...

So here's my bike with the Diamond back seat. Attached is tail sections mentioned earlier. I've ordered the correct one for a softail ( solid chrome) that I'm going to have powder coated black. It there is still play sideways in the seat with the right tail piece I' must going to make two brackets that bold into the side of the frame like my other seat does. I have a big two up that also turns into a solo by pulling off the rear pillion.
