Default Primary cover replacement

I have just bought a chrome outer primary cover to replace the stock one. Since I know absolutely nothing about what is involved in changing one, I am wondering if somebody could let me know what I am in for. Is it as simple as unscrewing the old one, and putting the new one on? Is there a gasket that I need to replace? Any help is appreciated.

From what I understand it's just a matter of taking off the old one and slapping on the new one. If your old gasket is ok then just clean it up and reuse it. If you have any doubts about the condition, opt for a new gasket. You will also need to refill the primary. I think it takes about 1 quart.

Thanks for the quick response. That sounds easy enough.... Now for the next stupid question. What do I fill the primary with? Man, I think I might be too dumb to even have a bike!!!

Just make sure that when removing the gasket and placing it on the "New" primary cover that you dont pinch it or anything like that. Make sure that you properly toqure the bolts back in and a small dab of locktite wouldn't hurt. Good luck should be a easy project.

why not drain and replace your primary fluid while you're at it? It's pretty easy to do.
