Anyone add a thin layer of silicone on your primary cover gasket to get a little extra seal? I'm guessing it would be ok since its just the primary. Thoughts?
I have had other things leak like the derby cover, and used silicone there, but I have had the primary cover off 2 times, and used a new gasket each time with no silicone, and have not had a leak. My vote is no.
I use a little Gasgacinch on Primary side of gasket. That way , if I have to remove cover, it sticks to the Primary & hopefully be able to re-use gasket. last gasket I bought was over 20 bucks! Works for me.

Those black gaskets with the orange jell lines on them last a few times, I just put a little silicone around the screw holes and threads. The key to no leaks is the way you tighten the bolts, as long as you have a reasonable gasket.
You really shouldn't use silicone sealer at all if you can help it because it gets into the threads and hydraulics them apart, causing cracks and leaks or munted threads.
Silicone is OK for things that bolt together with through bolts but Hylomar or other non-setting sealant is the way to go in the long run.
Most people, when using silicone use about 100 times more than is necessary and the excess causes all sorts of harm.
