Default 1999 FXDWG want to mount newer wheels

Hi All
I have a 1999 FXDWG and want to run some of the NEWER wheels HD offers
but I have the smaller axle.Is there anyway to do this ?
I also love the new beefier front forks on the 06+ Dyna's.
Can you just buy a front end from a 06+ Dyna (triple trees & forks & tire) and
just bolt it on my 1999 ?
Thanks ...
Rob ....

I may not help you but I had the reverse of your problem. I went from the 1" front axle to the 3/4"... All I had to do was simply swap out the bearings from 1" to 3/4". You're gonna have to swap the bearings AND the spacer tube in your 3/4" setup. The reason being is that the 3/4" axle will pass through the 1" spacer tube but not the other way around. This is all assuming your rotors, spacers, etc. fit; there might have to be some modifications there, but I'm not sure.

As for the front end, as long as the neck is 1" it should bolt up. Having said that, it might not be a simple swap in that fork locks and stops might need modification. I wasn't concerned about those things when I swapped my for my springer, so I can't really address them.

The problem I see having is a 3/4" axle is needed in my forks.
So I can't see how a newer 1" rim would work :-(

You can't swap the 1" bearings in the new wheel for 3/4" bearings that will fit your axle?

If you find a wheel you like that has the newer sealed bearings for a 3/4 inch axle you only need to replace the rotor.

I put a HD Black Lightningstar wheel that had been on a 2001 or 2003 Nightrain on my 1999 FXDWG. I had to purchase a new rotor because the sealed wheel bearings are larger than the non sealed bearings that came on my wide glide.Thehole in the middle of the 99rotor was too small for thenew wheel.

The Black Lightningstar wheel that I got came with sealed bearings that fit a 3/4 axle. If you want to put a wheel designed for 1 inch axles on your bike you might want to check the JP cycles catalog. I think they sell a spacer insert that you can useto get a 1 inch bearingto fit your 3/4 axle. If you decide on a used wheel with sealed bearings you might want to install new bearings. George's Garage sells a bearing change tool for about $150. I tried to change the bearings by using a punch and hammer but I did not even come close to succeeding.
