Default My Classic is almost an Ultra now...(long)

Somehow, this post appeared twice and I can't figure out how. Sorry.

Yesterday I installed, on my EGC, the rear speakers, intercom, and CB and it all even works! One surprise I got was where to run all the extra cables. The instructions on everything say to run them under the console on top of the tank. I decided to run everything under the tank and man was that easier and cleaner. The '08 tanks no longer have the cross over line that you have to remove. Just disconnect the quick disconnect fuel line and remove the 4 bolts, vent line and gauge connector and lift the tank off. There is a plastic cable tray with a cover and all the cables from the rear of the bike fit in there. The only thing that I had to run under the console was the cable from the rider headset connector.

The most difficult tasks were changing the left handlebar switches and getting the fairing back on after adding all those cables and that huge harness. I'm sure there is a proper way to mount the harness, but I couldn't find it.

It was a bit scary drilling the holes in the tour-pak, especially the 3/4 inch hole for the antenna feedline grommet.

One thing I found wrong with the instructions was where to mount the CB antenna. If I had followed the directions, it would have been much further inboard from the edge of the tour-pak than the AM/FM antenna is. I decide to mount it the same place as the AM/FM only on the right side. It all worked fine. BTW, this was the $30 eBay CB unit.

This project took most of the day. I suppose the dealer could have done it much quicker, but I enjoyed doing it and learned a lot about the bike. Since there is no service manual for the '08 touring bikes yet, I had the dealer copy a few pages out of an '07 manual to tell me how to get the ignition/fork lock switch cover off toinstall the speaker switch.

I did have to take the bike to the dealer to have them flash the radio to enable the rear speakers an intercom. The speakers worked, but without the flash there is no "fader" control or intercom function.

Now all I need are the lower fairings and tour-pak liner and it will be an Ultra with the colors I wanted.

Jim

See I tell everyone that wants a SG or a EGC to move up to the ULTRA as sooner then later bit by bit they add more and more to make it a ULTRA anyway... (LOL)

LOOKS GOOD!!!

Yeah I love my Street Glide and don't want an Ultra. Now there are the one or two times a year when I wish I had the extra TourPac, but the T-Bag works just fine for me in those instances.
