I will be purchasing my new Ultra Classic as soon as I can sell my old bike. I am new theTouring bike classand have a couple of questions about the bike I was hoping ya'll could help me with.
Is it possible (feasible) to remove the trunk and passenger backrest for day to day riding and put it back on for trips? If so, can the antennas be mounted eslewhere so I can still use my radios?
Also, I know that the CB has a "push to talk" feature, but can the CB be used without wearing a helmet? Does CB traffic come through stereo speakers, and where would a mic mount if not in the helmet.
would probably be a bit of a job unless you purchased a detachable set up. the wiring and the antennas would be another deal. as far as the cb push to talk, you will have to buy a hand mic from hd or j&m. for transmitting. you will be able to recieve through the fairing speakers. good luck.
You need to go to a Harley dealership and make the salesman earn his money by walking you through all the features and answer all your questions............. Then come back to the form and get your answers qualified!
The tour pac is bolted to bike... to make it removable you will have to get and change out the rear mounting bracket to a removable one... Remember on an Ultra, the rear speaker pods are connected to the tour pac and therefor you would be going down to a two speaker radio while pac-less.. CB and Radio antenna's can be mounted on an optional bracket also but then you would have to install a pig-tail type wiring harness (perhaps)... Best to check with a dealer on that.
CB can be heard through the bikes speakers.... CB microphone can be added so you won't have to use the headset mic.... It's a googie lookin thing if you buy the one made by Harley. Don't like them myself... Would make you look like "Ponch" on that infamous TV show back in the 70's...
Good luck in selling your current ride... and Welcome to the world of Geezerville..... Oh and ya,, the forum..
Thanks for the answers. Exactly what I was looking for. I did attempt to get a salesman to answer my questions... but the salesmen seemed "too busy" to talk to me. I guess I won't be buying a bike from Ft. Worth HD. Maybe they didn't pay any attention to me since I rode up on a (cough) VTX 1800.

I had the same thing happen to me when I pulled up on my VTX1300 at the Cool Springs in Tenn dealership.Needless to say I did not buy from them.Welcome to the forum
I took my trunk off, coiled all the wires under the seat (20 minute job) and put an amplified antenna inside the fairing. Radio works great but no CB, need a bracket for that antenna. Detach kit is not worth the money to me. T.
It's funny....when ah went last year ta look at HD's, ah wuz on mah Goldwing. The Gruene dealership salesman spent a lotta time answerin' mah questions, emphasized to me that the HD was NOT gonna be the same ride style as the Wing, an' really bent over backwards ta make sure ah knew that ah'd be on a totally different ride. Never once belittled the Wing, an' if he didn't know the answer ta sumthin' he told me.
3 weeks an' an eBay auction later, ah rode out on mah '07 UC...<G>

They ought to have....that should have been a sure sign if they were paying any attention. There's no place better to buy a 'used' metric than a Harley dealer, and most of the ones I see on HD dealer floors have little or low mileage on them and appear to be well looked after. If they ended up on the showroom floor, the owners ofthese metrics were obviously, pretty serious about doing some biz. They should have been all over you like a fat girl on a donut.
The local dealer where I am has6 used metrics and about 12 used Harleys for sale on their floor right now. All of 'em traded in for '08s I was told.
