I have been reading the forum for about a year now getting ideas and helps for my bike but haven't been able to give anything back until now. I looked for a lot of photos and information before changing out the apes. Thanks to all who have posted to share with the rest of us!
Because of shoulder and wrist pain I changed the apes to something lower. I'm going for the vintage Hot Rod look. These are the Flanders Speedster bars drilled/knurled for internal wiring. Weedeater line came in handy to pull the wires through the bars. I have the Motion Pro Blackout series idle/throttle and clutch cables on order as well as a Lowrider front brake line w/Goodrich Ebony banjo bolts. (The Weedeater line also came in handy to "measure" my stock cables and then "make" new ones of the correct length before ordering them.) I'm planning to get the MoCo black levers and a black Arlen Ness mirror (maybe just the right side only). I should have the stock apes and cables for sale as soon as my new ones come in.
While I was at it I added Jackyl's 2" tank lift. It made a bigger difference than I was counting on. I'd also like to add a Fatboy 7" headlight with black powdercoated bucket and powdercoat the triple trees. I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to leave the chrome lowers or powdercoat them black too.
If you have any questions about the install just ask. I'm happy to help.
Your bob is looking good man. I guess that you have a tough decision with the front legs. It looks like you already have the chrome look. But hey why not powdercoat the old ones. It's a sharp look ---anyway good luck
