Maybe the heat issues on the 07 and 08. I hope they take notice.
Maybe the way to recover the extra money from the strike.
Maybe the Harley will go the way of the Indian.
But it didn't come as a surprise to the employees.
I know some folks that work at the KC plant, and they were told about the layoffa few months ago, so they were able to 'plan ahead' knowing the exact date this was going to take place.
No shock . This entire country is in a world of hurt. One word : Imports . Hardly nothing made here anymore !!
This statement is so full of holes! Many "imports" have factories right here in the great USofA and many Americans make a living off of them.
When I can go to a japanese bike shop that looks like it had not been remodeled since the building was built in the 1970's and is so small that you can barely get around.
Then go to any harley shop and they have these hugely expensive brand new buildings with more floor space that the lobby of a five star hotel, I can see where my money is going. Harley's could cost less as their is nothing about them technologicallythat costs $20,000. We pay this price because of the name and a life style.
If they did smarter business practices instead of trying to impress everyone with all of this extravagance they would be better off.
I say all of this because I want to see them succeed and to be around for years to come.
Rant off, Flame suit on!
Everyone seems to be right to a certain degree. Sure Harley created the monster, but we (consumer) let them. What goes up always comes down. The economy isn't very strong right now. My Girlfriend and I own a retail store, and our sales are down about 20% less than last year at this time. Mortgage issues, higher gas prices. Sure stuff like electronics are selling better, but they keep comming out with new things every year, and it's a cheap way for people to bury their head in the sand with their I-pods, video games, etc., and try not to think about how sideways the world is going. Yes, lot's of foreign companies have plants here. But we farm a lot of jobs overseas. I would at least like to call the phone Co. without getting someone on the other line with an accent so thick, I can't even understand them, and I was raised overseas, so I'm used to accents.....but that's another issue.
Harley prices do suck. When I pay almost a $1000.00 for a sissy bar & windshield, something is wrong, but I did. So, I'm just as much as the problem as anyone. Harley is trying to impress with extravagance because they're catering to a certain demographic. I realize it's all smoke and mirrors, but when most people are plunking down that type of cash for something, they want to do it in a Taj Mahal type atmposhere, and not some hole in the wall with a Porta Potty. Let's not forget how many bikes Harley sells overseas too.
