Hi there, Not sure what advantage you expect from a single disc brake. I have ridden a lot of Soft tails with the single disc and it really is pretty pathetic. I have owned 7 EGCs from 86 to 07 and the brakes have gotten progressiveley better. I am waiting for a new 08 in April and I moved to it largely because of the new Brembos with ABS. I doubt this change will serve any real functional advantage. I strongley suggest that you reconsider. Trying to stop a 750 pound bike with 2 riders and a baggage at the same time as you reduce braking capacity does not seem like a good plan. I doubt that MOCO engineers are wrong on this one, Certainley owner modifications to reduce the brake effectiveness would be looked at in the event of an accident and could leave you with a huge liability issue in court. I doubt there can be any advantage to these modifications.
I used a HD FXSTC/FXDWG S.S. front brake line kit. HD part # 45206-97B. I have a six piston HHI with a 13â rotor.
How's the braking with that setup? I'm going to do the chrome forks and have been considering eliminating the right caliper and going with a six piston on the left. Any idea what I could use to cover the end of the hub where the rotor is removed on a stock SG wheel?
Milton,
According to the HD website...Dry Weight..
Heritage Classic...725 lbs.
Road King...744 lbs.
Ultra Classic...814 lbs.
Your claim that 2 brakes are NEEDED for the baggers is inaccurate, unless you can explain why a 19 lb. difference between a Heritage and Road King justifies the additional brake.
Here's the sad...but true reality on braking. IF you wreck the scoot at 70 mph and the additional brake on the bagger slows you by, let's be generous...20 mph before impact over the softtail...bottom line is this...you're STILL gonna be damn near dead, if not dead!
Whomever was inquiring about a single side brake...have at it! A QUALITY single brake on a 2006 is STILL a better brake than TWO of MOCO's of the same year!
I was not inquiring about the single brake just the line for one I made up MY MIND as to what I wanted to do and I am going to do it whether members like it or not
I bought new sliders from Native Customs Baggers with the right side caliper mounts removed. Cant say how I like the setup yet but will take my first ride this weekend. http://www.nativecustombaggers.com/products.php
