Default which tyre/brand gives the best performance on dry/wet surface?

with so many tyre manufacturers, i'd like to hear from fellow HD riders about their preffered tyre selection on dry/wet surfaces.

I often hear metzelers are the best, but some say Avon tyres...i my self mostly have been on dunlop.
may be experienced riders could share their opinions about the tyre selection too.

You'll probably get more votes for Metzelers than for Avons because more people use them. But I've used both on my Heritage and on other bikes before that, and my vote goes to Avon Venoms. But that's based on limited experience because I live in California and as everyone knows, it never rains in California.

I can only speak about the tires I've had personal experience with: the stock Dunlops that came on Reaper, and the ME880s I've been using for the past 2 years.

The Dunlops are not bad tires at all, but they would always track in grooves, and were a bit slick in the rain. The ME880s don't track in grooves at all, and are almost as good in the rain as they are on dry pavement. Also, they handle twisty roads far better than the Dunlops. I have gotten about the same mileage out of the ME880s as I got out of the Dunlops.

Cheers!

yes, i have the same experience with the dunlops. They seem to track those road snakes too, they get even worse in the rain. wonder why the HDs use dunlops as their OE tyre. My stock dunlops are about to wear out, i'm thinking of changing to the metz.

For my $$$ and for safety (grip) I use avons on my bagger.
They will wear out faster but when 2 up, grip is all that matters to me.

For years and years, I was a Connie user. Then went to Avons in the late 80's. I still run Avons, except on the back of the chop, I run a Cheng Shin Marquis series. It is the softest (rubber compound) I have found, plus holds up better than the Avon at 16-18#. Not anywhere close to the best mileage, but like benman, I go for grip. 30 something degree tires on 30 degree something asphalt, makes for slickery conditions. I want ALL the grip I can get on the rear. Its a chopper, Avon Speedmaster Rib on the front, what else is there. Most of the guys I ride with ditch the ME880's up here, too slippery they say. I have never used them, so it is just their word here. GUMBY
