Default Info about oil sending unit

Sorry to ask this because I know the topic has been beat to death! If the damn search engine worked, I wouldn't have to! (yea, I tred to find it using google and didn't have any luck there either)

My memory says there was a thread that gave detailed directions on how to install the oil temp guage on a FLH* bike. Does anyone happen to know where this is at?

The specifics I'm looking for are what sending unit and the bushing necessary to make it fit in the extra drain plug hole.

I believe Soos posted pics and NAPA part number for the bushing.

I also used the oil pan mounting for the oil temp sending unit. Use a 3/8" Male NPT X 1/4" female bushing that goes in the oil pan using the threaded hole currently occupied by a flush mount casting plug w/ Allen headlocated near the oil drain plug. Your sending unit screws into this bushing. I purchased the bushing at Ace Hardware for a couple of bucks.

Run the wiring up the right side frame rail and into the fairing. You can simply tap the power (orange wire) and ground (black wire) used for the 2" gauges already inside the fairing rather than running the wiring to the fuse block and ground called for in the instructions.

Also, I moved my voltmeter to the air temp slot, and mounted the oil temp gauge below the oil pressure gauge to have both oil gauges together.

NAPA bushing, part #3220 x 6 x 2. ?
I do know it's: 3/8" male NPT X 1/8" female NPT

Gauge wires:
Orange = Pos
Black= Ground
Blue/V = Temp Signal

I took my sender in with me to NAPA when I got the adapter. Just don't tell them it's for a Harley and you wont get the deer in the headlights look.

Found this link but the pics are gone:

Ahh, so simple, so sensible. Someday I'll be able to think of these simple things...but in the meantime...

DO NOT PUT THE SENDER IN WITHOUT ADAPTER the plug is a casting plug for
the engine oil pump intake if you put the senser in ther without spacing it out you
will restrict the oil intake to the engine. if you take that plug out and leave to go to
the parts store all the oil will drain out. that plug is in there with a real strong
locktight

If you order the HD Oil temp guage for you specific bike, the company is now putting in all the parts you need including pipe thread sealer for the oil plug.
