Not only am I pretty new to riding, but I recently got a Fat Bob. Thats the good news, the bad news is now I'm having to come up with the money to dress it out. Anyways, I'm reading alot about slip-on's and my question is: everybody is talking about Rush & V&H, but I like the look of the SE street performance slip-on's (80674-08). They just look good with the tommy gun exhaust system. Why do I not see anybody or pics with these pipes ? Are they that bad ? Are they that quiet ? Is it cost ? I'm not looking to wake up my neighbors when I come home at 3 in the morning but I do want a nice harley rumble (some ***** to go with the bike) ! Any info would be greatly appreciated...
glad to see you riding. get the rush slipons 2 inch baffles. for quality rush is the way to go. the others you pay for the name. remember any air cleaner change or muffler change get your bike a stage 1 down load or you will mess up your bike. change your plugs to ngk iridiums to. go with the k&n ac . well good luck.07 wdgd k&n ac, pcIII , rush 2 inch slipons stage one down load also.
In answer to your question the SE pipes are only minimally louder than the stock muffler, and a stock muffler can be easily modified to be just as loud as the SE. Rush makes a muffler with and optional end cap that looks almost like the SE muffler but sounds much better and is a lot cheaper.
I got Rush Slash Out design just to change up the look just a little. I started with 1.75 baffles and was very happy with them. Another member here had a set of 2.00 baffles that he gave to me for free so I just intstalled those yesterday. They are a little louder and a little deeper sounding. I didnt do any downloads.....and I am not fearful of "messing up my bike" There is no decel popping which is an indication of a too lean condition. I have talked to several techs and none feel the need for a download with just a slip on change.
I have the SE street performance on my Fat Bob and can say they are louder and add torque. I did month's of research and listened to alot of pipes and to me, the SE street performance for the 08 Fat Bob sound better then any slip-on out there. My second choice would be Rush, but again, to me, they don't sound better, only louder, plus youwill give up some torque compared to the SE street perfomance slip-ons. Lot's of folks that are looking for louder sound have the Rush's and seem to like them. Suggest listening to several setups becauseeveryone has different tastes and likes. Remember, the SE pipes get louder over time also.
You should only pay $280 for the SE Street Performance, not sure what Rush costs. Here are some pictures of my SE slip-ons
I initially had the SE pipes on my Fat Bob when I first got it. As mentioned above, they were only slightly louder than stock pipes. While I didn't want to **** off the neighbors, I also wanted that distinctive Harley sound. I got it with the Rush 2" tip compatible slip on's. They sound awesome. Also did the Stage I download and put an SE breather on it. The tips I got also match the tommy gun effect, but without the black tips which I didn't care for anyway.
Thanx for the pics and info. Its nice to hear the opinion that louder isn't always better. As long as anyone who rides can hear a bike in the distance and know the difference between a honda and a harley motor, thats all that matters.
