Default Upgrade wheels on a Wide Glide?

To make a long story short, I bought a harley because I didn't want to get a flat tire. I've explained this in earlier posts, so to make it quick, I basically was going to buy new wheels for my Yamaha...custom wheels with tubeless tires (basically the tubless tires would give me the option of using fix-a-flat or a plug...quick side of the road fix). But after looking into it, I saw that custom wheels for metrics are particularly expensive, and I didn't know if I wanted to invest more money in that bike. Needless to say, I chose to sell that bike and buy a harley. Sounds stupid right? I know..I tend to be a little impulsive when it comes to spending money. But in all honesty, I've wanted a Harley for many many years, and it was the perfect excuse to do it.
With that said, it's kinda funny that my fear of flat tires with tube type tires was the catalyst for my decision to buy, and ironically I bought a Harley with TUBE TYPE TIRES!!!
Anyway, it's my understanding that you're more likely to get a flat on the rear tire...and in my own experience with 2 flats, they were both out back. So this leads me to why I'm posting. I want to upgrade the rear wheel on my Wide Glide to a tubeless type. I really like the laced wheel on the front, so I think I'm just going to keep that stock. I'm just having trouble deciding what to go with. There are plenty of wheels in Harley's catalog (and I'm sticking with harley....not interested in the aftermarket)...only problem is, most don't fit the 06 dynas. For example, I really like the 'Mirror chrome Thunderstar' wheels. Thing is, they only have them in 16". (at least that's what I'm seeing in the catalog)
I also wouldn't mind a solid disc wheel, but like the Thunderstar, I don't see a 17" version. I do see one or two 17" custom wheels in the catalog (the 10 spoke and one other that I can't remember the name right now), but I'm really not a big fan of those two...and not to mention...they're a bit pricey.
So you can see my dilema...I'd really like to upgrade before the riding season, but I don't want to spend the big bucks on something that I'm not really going to be happy with.
I guess the question is, does anyone know if Harley makes a disc wheel in 17"..and if so, will it fit a wide glide. I think someone else posted a similar question a short while back, but I couldn't find that thread (so I'm sorry for repeating the same question).
Maybe you guys could also suggest some other wheels that are in the catalog that I may have missed.
Thanks very much!

Todd

hey ven, i seen the same thing. no 06 wheels in the catalog., so then i started thinkin, the duece runs the same size rear wheel, and has the same size axle, the only question is will the rotor and sprocket fit on the duece rim and will it fit in the rear swing arm, i mean is there going to be a spacing issue. i asked a couple dealers and they had no idea. depending on how much risk your will to try you could probably get one off e bay cheap and see if you can get it to fit, the down side is you loose the money for the wheel and the time you spent trying to put it on. i'm not the risk taker so i haven't done......thought about it though

I believe the wheels off a V-rod will fit. The stock cast wheels from any other '06 Dyna are interchangable. I know I've seen new take offs on e-bay.

same boat as you bro...i like to ride the **** outta my bike...no doubt and coming off of a yamaha roadstar warrior, the harley was a step down for sure in the power and handling depts...so i took care of that...i now have 120hp 103 stroker and progressive suspension all round and just upgraded to the slotted 6 spoke wheels from harley...REPLACE THE FRONT...trust me ...those laced wheels suck for the fact that i put 11k on my bike last year and it needed trueing...which can cost anywhere between 100 and 250 dollars depeding on how bad it is.,....and tubes???...oh **** that ****.....there is a set of wheels that HD makes for your bike...they dont make em for my bike yet though...04 fxdwgi...at any rate..the front and rear progressive setup cost me 225.00 shipped from www.phatperformanceparts.com and i got the wheels frommy dealer for 1200.00(front floating rotor as well)...with that little upgrade there it handles so much better than stock....not only do the wheels feel better above 135mph but the ride is sensational...i will never stay with a stock shock again....trust me man get ride of that stupid laced wheel on the front...ok now i can calm down....ride safe

bob, how do you know that a v-rod wheel will fit? i like that wheel better than the duece. i actually would like a solid rear wheel and if itll fit that would be a great idea!

Yeah man...definitely. I'd even go as far as to say that if it did fit and I picked one up, I'd probably chrome plate it as well. That would look pretty nice..in my opinion

V-Rod wheels on a Street Bob would be interesting. Reminiscent of one of my favorite Exile bikes, the Black Bull. Check it out.

I was in the dealer5ship a month or so ago taking a close look at bikes. Planning mods before I get the bike. I happened to notice that the V-Rod uses the same brake rotor and caliper as the Dyna cast wheel. Which made me think the Brembo calipers would be a bolt on swap. They all certainly look the same.

Then we started looking at the wheels. Although I can't be 100% sure, the parts manager and I think they are interchangable.

i am definatly diggin the rear v-rod idea. in chrome but keeping the front wheel. anyone have the dimentions of the vrod wheel compred to the bon rear wheel. i think it an 18 x 5.5 which would be perfect, but is it a 1 inch axle andis there any offets in the hub that would not make it fit and will the sprokets and rotor fit on?

Despite handling, performance, etc etc....I really like the look of the laced wheel up front....so I'm keeping it! But it would be fantastic if I could get a disc (I like the Thunderstars too) wheel out back. I have a feeling that in the next year we'll start seeing some more options for the dynas as far as parts are concerned....hopefully including wheels. The v-rod wheel would be great, but for some reason, I just don't think it'll fit..just a feeling. I've been wrong before, and could be now, but it just seems Harley is really good at making parts that aren't interchangeable between the different model lines. It would be great if I was wrong Let me know if you find anything out
