I have a 2011 Superglide. I found a set of wheels for a 1984 softail. The wheel style was discontinued some time in the last 20 years. So ordering a set to fit my bike is out of the question. These wheels are super cool and I want them. Can I make them work? Will I need Axles?, rotors? I know my fender is set up for a 19" wheel and this one is 21". I have a plan for that. Also my rear is 17" and this one is 16". Will my pully bolt to it?
Any info will be cool Thanks.
There are several things that get in the way. Your bike has 25mm ball bearing wheels and axles, but the 84 has tapered roller 3/4" bearings. They don't interchange. The bearing housings on your bike are larger in diameter, which means your rotors and rear pulley have larger central holes than the 84.
So your axles won't go through 84 wheels and those wheels won't take 25mm bearings. The 84 rear wheel is only 3" wide, so will take a 150 wide tyre max. You would have to be very determined to make them fit. It is probably possible, but not easy to do. Hope that helps a little.
Thanks for the reply. And I would have to say your info. is right on. I talked to a couple of shops and they are telling me the same thing. I think I'm gonna' have to give up on these wheels. Not realy looking for different wheels, A freind has the wheels i like and decided not to use them. I just liked the look of them and thought....maybe.
Thanks again.
