Default New Helmet?

Have had a 3/4 helmet for 8years...time for a new one. Considering full face or flip-up full face helmet. Any suggestions?

Default RE: New Helmet?

My wife just got an HJC cl-sp full faced @$150 and she really loves it. She did all the research on it. I tried to talk her into amodular but she read that they were heavier , had more wind noise, and weren't as safe as a full face. And the way her helmet is designed there really is not much to be gained by going with a modular. Her mouth isn't buried in the chinportion like it is in some full faces so she can talk just fine.

I just hope she continues to like it as the summer heat sets in. She previously had a 1/2 helmet which is what I currently use.Since she's riding her own bike now she said it makes her feel more confident to have a full face helmet.

From my reading I'm convinced that price is not a good indicator of quality or effectiveness. If I were to go with a full faced or any helmet I would base my decision on fit, comfort, looks and DOT rating.

The wife's helmet isalso Snell rated which if you check into it has been called into question as not being as safe as a DOTonly helmet. I think the jury is still out on thisissue.

During our search we also checked out some carbon full faced helmets. They were noticibly lighter but it seems they only come in black.

I haveboth a NOLAN FLIP UP anda SHOEI Multitec. TheSHOEI is hands down the better helmet. BUT, it is 200 dolla more than the NOLAN.(aNOLANisclose to 3 bills)The NOLAN has more wind noise, less quality overall, looser. TheSHOEI is top of the line in comfort, construction and overall quality. The paint on the SHOEI is outstanding also. NOLAN is good bank for the buck. SHOEI's optics are better also.
