Default If this doesn't make you angry.......

Mornin' guys.
Went on a trip to Mount St Helen's this past week-end. Didn't get very far when the bike started to make some serious noises when being started. Went to Northwest HD, at Lacy - Washington, to have the bike looked at. Was told by the South Side HOG members that the shoppricingwas reasonable and did fairly good work.
The bike required a new starter, starter clutch and pinion gear.
Gaskets were replaced.
My part price from Zanotti's would have total $559.12[/b].
The price I was charged by Northwest HD was $747.44 excluding taxes[/b].
Difference $188.32[/b], AND[/b] THAT'S ON THE PRICE I WOULD HAVE PAID[/b].
Is there any wonder why these dealerships are referred to as Stealerships[/b] in this forum?
Being on the road and broken down shouldn't mean that you should beexposed to this type of treatment.
Not only that but there are 3 new scratches on my rear hardpack[/b].
Don't you just love these guys?
Thought you best be informed.
Have a GREAT Day.

Excuse me? Why does that even phase you? Did they have the parts ON THE SHELF?!? Did they get onto your bike in a timely manner? Does Zanotti offer on-site service? What would air freight have cost you to have the parts overnighted to you? The claim of damage to your bag - did you bring it to their attention?

Dude, I don't know about you, but when I have a brick-and-mortar store, I have employees and property taxes to pay - I can't try to offset them with volume sales, and then have some guy come in off the street and want immediate parts availability AND installation.

Sorry - no sympathy here......

Redneck, makes a good point and I also I’m receptive to your concerns, seems like a costly repair but if they got you back out on the road, maybe the added cost is acceptable.

I guess maybe you should search the net for the lowest parts prices and then carry them all around with ya. You'll need to buy a very big trunk.

Have to agree with TexasRed you really didn't expect a internet discount price on parts? Been to Northwest HD several times always top notch IMO, BTW Hog Members get 10% off and officers usually get 20% off, so join and get discounts at local dealers..

Personally, I don't have a problem being charged list price for HD parts at a dealership--sure, I'd like to be able to buy from Zanotti's, but if you were on the road, they repaired the bike properly, got you in and out rather than making you wait for a day or two--don't know that you should be complaining--I wouldn't.

The scratches should be brought to the attention of the service manager.

Stealerships are places that charge for work not done, charge for parts not used, or substitute inferior parts for what they charged me for, IMO.

So your saying that you paid a Dealership $188.32 more to replace a starter, starter clutch, pinion gear, and gasket's than it would have cost you just in parts (with the discount from Zanotti's)? And your saying you feel you got ripped off? Sorry buddy, don't think so. They don't supply the labor for free. Looks like they only charged you for 2 hours labor to do it and they got you back on the road. No sympathy here either.

Not trying to be an ***, but in my head, I know that I may be able to do a job for $100 in parts alone, but don't have the time or circumstances say I can't do it (on the road in your case) so I have to pay someone $200 to get it done. I accept that and don't/shouldn't feel I got ripped off.

Case in point.....first trip to ROT in Austin 2 years ago. Headed to the rally to checkin, ran over glass and cut tire and tube. Fellow pulled over with his bike in back of truck. Dropped his bike out, pushed mine into the truck and took us to the rally. Tire guy at rally charged me $210 for a replacement Dunlop tire, tube, mounting and balance. At home, I could have got it all done for around $140. I don't feel I got ripped off under the circumstances.

The only part that bothers me is 3 new scratches. Other than that, I don't see a problem. It was a simple case of supply and demand. You needed it. They had it.....I'll gladly give you a glass of ice water at my house. I'll bet the same glass will cost you dearly in hell.

So of that $747 how much was labor. If the difference of $188 from on line price would be labor seems fairly reasonable. The fact they had everything to fix your bike and they got you out of there in a good time, I'd gladly pay it and give them a big thanks.
