A way to tell if your front engine mount is bad? With closeup Pics.
I have read and read on the shimming of the front mount and have reduced my "bad" vibes by a little.Took it to the dealer blah, blah, blah. So I am replacing my front engine mount myself. I pulled the mount just now and noticed rub marks were I assume they should not be. Since I am no expert I am posting pics for those who may be.Anyway, I ordered a mount from my Indy it will be here Wednesday. I will compare the two side by side to see if there are any noticable differences.
This pic is to try to orient my ramblings.... See the upper mount bracket..... the underside of this bracket is were I see significant rub marks from the top of the rubber isolator. I assume this is adding to the bad vibes.......
Here is the back side of the bracket.........see how its nice and shinny?
The isolator itself....notice the wear marks on top of the isolator. This is were there is a very thin layer of rubber between the two mounting \\;blocks so when it rubs here it would seem that it would almost be metal on metal.

Its a 2007 FXD with 3200 miles labfreak. As far as I can tell the top of the isolator should not come into contact with the bottom of the front engine mount bracket. And it really shouldnt be rubbing a wear pattern like it is.
