Going to reg the new bike on base today. Where do y'all put your stickers? I was fine with putting it on the windshield of my 95, but the new FXSTI is a different story.... any cool ideas(BTW, this one does NOT have a windshield)? (pics would be fantabulous)
if ya got to do it..just put it on the front of the forks lower left side so the gate guard will see it...- - that's the way it was on Dyess AFB back in my AF days!
can you use an inspection plate sticker? It bolts onto the frame right at the end of my floorboards... Works fine for NC State Inspection stickers... I would think it would be okay for a gate pass...
Good luck finding something to keep from having to put it on your forks or on any of your chrome.
The inspection plates are more square to slightly rectangular and the base stickers, if applied within base regulations, will end up taking a plate that should be about 2.5in W x 7in L. I was planning on having one made for me to mount to my engine guard on my FLSTC but got lazy and went ahead and put it on my windshield.
A lot depends upon the Wing CC or the cops at your base. Some reject any sort of plpate since they can be easily unscrewed or ubolted and stolen. Left fork tube is the usual place.. If you can, an aluminum plate bolted under the triple tree/headlight area is a good place. Or...just carry a small plate with you in your jacket...yeah...ya have to stop, but they ouight to be checking IDs anyway.
I was at USAF Academy for a number of years...always brought the gate keepers a sealed cold soda in summer...a $1.00 scratcher lottery ticket in winter....very cheap "insurance" (in case you ever forget the orange vest, shoes, etc. or maybe have a funny "aroma" on you for some reason)...after a while, the guys knew the scoot and would just wave me on through.
hmmm... wonder if you could have a plate made that would span accross the forward down tubes? Or would that be too "hidden?"
I did not realize the stickers were that big. Everytime I am on base it is in a work capacity and I have no longtime stickers on my vehicles. Hmmm... seems like this would be a common problem given all the miltary people around here... And not EVERYONE has a windshield I am sure...
Two years ago I was a contractor at Cannon AFB. I went to Home Depot and got a wall blank switchplate, no hole, pounded it flat with a hammer, put the base sticker on it and attached it where the clutch cable keeper is on the front left frame downtube. Put it behind the keeper against the tube. The screw is strong enough to hold it forever and it beats destroying your front left slider with a base sticker. Never had a hassle.
Yeah.. it's ugly.. but base stickers are no beauty contest
I think some states dictate where the inspection sticker must be. When I lived in TX I had a liscense plate bracket that had a lower plate for the inspection that came from the dealer.
Thankfully here in Ark they have done away with the state inspection. Too much crooked going on with it. Now the police just pull you over and ticket you and they get the revenue that way.
Duh, you were asking about "base" stickers as in military base, sorry. Being former Army 1st Armored Div we didn't have a base, we had a "Post." But if possible I'd still put my sticker somewhere other than a painted surface or chrome.

Dude that is hainus! Glad it worked for you on that base but wont get you past the gate here. On all Marine Corps and Navy bases it has to be done with the month sticker on the left side of the DoD sticker and the year sticker on the right of it. Then the small strip to identify the base and the color to identify you as a Contractor, GS Civilian, Retired, Enlisted or Officer sticker goes under the DoD sticker. Thats what will make it so long and narrow.
Yeah.. I'm retired Navy and the Navy bases weren't as simple. Back then, I got a chrome plate (I think it was a chrom license plate backing plate) and installed it on the lower front of my triple tree on my FXRS. Then, I put a leather fork bag in front of that so the sticker wasn't completely visible. Just made those gate knuckleheads have to search for it.. hahahahaha. With all the crap you had to go through to ride a bike on base, I figured fair was fair.....
