Changed Derby Cover Gasket, Now Clutch Cable Won't Work
Guy I know called me a while ago, and was in "Panic Mode".. He had just removed his derby cover and installed a new gasket, and now his clutch cable wasn't working.
He was happy about getting the gasket installed and seated correctly so there were no leaks, but the first time he grabbed the clutch lever and pulled it there was nothing, the lever was just flopping back and forth like the clutch cable had broken..
When we pulled off his derby cover the problem was very obvious, and I'm sure it has happened to many in the past. When he removed the derby cover the clutch spring and lockplate assembly fell off, which is a pretty common thing.
But, if you look under the spring/lockplate you can see what is called the cable adjusting screw (shown in the first picture). The adjusting screw is shaped in such a way that sometimes you have to rotate the spring/lockplate so it will seat properly on the screw.
Well, when he was messing around putting the spring and lockplate back on he managed to turn the adjusting screw a turn or two clockwise, which is a big NO NO... If the adjusting screw isn't adjusted correctly your clutch lever will just flop in the wind, like his did.

Anyway, it was a 10 second fix. To adjust the 'adjusting screw' just turn it by hand to the left (counter clockwise) until it lightly seats. Then turn it 1/8 to 1/4 turn clockwise. Then just place the spring/lockplate assembly over the screw without rotating the adjusting screw any further clockwise..
Anyway, just thought I would pass this on in case someone runs into the same problem...
