Default No Response in Softails - Lower a Deuce? Any Help Here?

Hey Folks,
I'm new to the site, good to meet y'all (or "all y'all", since it's plural...) I read the lowering info on the Do It Yourself Forum link, and I'm still pretty much decided that I'm going to lower my '01 Deuce.

Seems like there's only one method for the front, and that's the fork kit with the new springs and dampers (stoppers? whatever), but it looks like there's TWO types of rear lowering kits. It looks like one involves the shock absorbers and the other involves the swingarm? Is that correct?

So my questions are:
1.) Anyone out there with a lowered Deuce? How much did you drop it? And, what are your observations from a visual and handling perspective?

2.) If there are two rear lowering kit types, is one "better" than the other? I know my limitations and I'm probably going to have the kit installed at the HD dealer - will one require less shop-time than the other?

3.) Any additional comments about lowering Softails in general and Deuces in particular would be appreciated!

Want a great ride? Check out the Texas Hill Country!
See you on the road.

WEll I own one , and it is "in the weeds" You need a adjustable lower kit for the rear, under 100 dollars and the front kit that Ihave found to work the best is the progressive kit about 100 dollars ( those are retail ??) You do need a special tool to get the shock bolts off most time. It is a spline wrench tq adapter works great. You also need a press to swap the adjustable end on to the shocks. The instructions are easy to follow not a big deal if you have the tools, you also need a few to do the front forks as well. But it works great you will loose ground clearance and most likely drag the pipe and the kick stand. Be carful the first few rides to get use to it.

Denman,

There are a bunch of ways to lower a Softail, the best and probably most expensive is the "Air Tail" It may be made by Progressive Suspention. It is air shocks mounted in place of the stockers and an air compressor monted on the bike.
The idea is that when you lower a bike you lose suspention travel and thus ride quality, (a lot), so, with this system when cruiseing or parked you can lower the bike for looks, but, for normal day to day riding or when adding a passenger you can add air from the on board compressor and thus increase suspention travel and maintain ride quality.

DC.

Great stuff! Thank you both for the info. I'll add pics of the bike to my sig block when I'm finished with the mods.

Have the Legend Air Ride on my Duece - all the way pumped up she is about an inch lowered - slammed she is about 5 - 6 inches down - handling is great in all positions but when slammed it is one hard ride, can you say "rigid"

Here is a pic of it almost all the way down
