Left my key in and ignition in on position for 1 hour and battery is dead. Tried a jump but won't start. What's the procedure? My bike is stranded about 4 miles from home.Thanks.
In an emergency I had to jump start. As I recall, I pushed the bike down a slight incline in second while the clutch was in. I made sure the kill switch was off, and I may have held the start button flush. It worked for me to my surprise.
I meant jump start with jumper cables from a car and car engine turned off. Tried this with 2 cars, the second one being my brother's ex-police interceptor -you know, cop engine, cop battery & all that Blues Brothers stuff. Anyway, to no avail. Ended up PUSH starting in 3rd gear - way easier than I though it would be. Rode it home (with ex-police escort), turned it off & let it set or a while. Starts right up no problem now. ????????????? This whole thing happened after a 30 min ride, warm day. It's a little over-due for an oil change but the level is good, I don't know could have been locked up - who knows. 1 hour with the ignition on and battery dead? Just don't sound right. Hope somethin ain't effed up. Seems to be running normal though.
Lucky for you it isn't EFI bike. No push starting available there. Check your battery connections for tightness and corrosion. Also, bike batteries have a shorter lifespan than car batteries, so how old is your battery?

Actually it IS EFI, pushed it with ingition on and "RUN" button engaged and in 3rd gear - never hit the "START" button. Soon as I released the clutch lever it fired. I will check connections though. The has almost 14,000 miles on it, 10,000 when I bought it - I'm guessing its the original battery. It's going in for 2500 mile service next week. Not riding it until I can take it in, don't want to press my luck since this happened it turns over a little slower than usual. Also looks like investing in a trickle charger right now would be a good idea just to make sure when I'm ready to take it in it'll start.
