Custom Harley Tank Embodies Vibe of New Petersen Exhibit
‘Auto-Didactic: The Juxtapoz School’ exhibit celebrates the avant-garde in the worlds of design and automotive culture.
Harley-Davidson Forums recently attended the opening night of the Petersen Automotive Museum’s latest exhibit, “Auto-Didactic: The Juxtapoz School.” The evening lauded the unconventional and daring art, design, and rides of Juxtapoz magazine. The evening blew us away with the bold and wild exhibit. But one Harley piece really stole the show.
There was so much to see and experience at the exhibit. Juxtapoz magazine has always been a strong voice for the influence of car and bike culture. From hot rods to custom car builds, it was all display. However, much of the art wasn’t on a canvas. Our favorite piece was on a Harley-Davidson tank.
The custom tank was designed by artist Sara Ray and is appropriately entitled “The Barbarian.” Ray’s work as a tattoo artist was apparent looking at the design, and her love of Harleys made this a showstopping piece.
The tank has exquisite details in the artwork, and the custom Harley-Davidson emblem was truly badass. The emblem features a gold eagle with a Harley logo against silver. It’s unique and very cool.
The artwork on the tank is vivid and sexy. Ray beautifully executed the design. With a motorcycle Goddess and a Viking skull, the design is colorful, and had a sense of motion that could only come from a true-blue Harley fan.
The “Auto-Didactic” exhibit runs at the Petersen in Los Angeles, California until June of 2019. After our experience, we highly recommend you check it out.
