H-D Forums Asks: How Should I Modify My New Fat Boy?

We love the way this bike looks in Rawhide, but every Harley can benefit from some tasteful aftermarket upgrades.

One of our members, Tampa Fatboy, recently purchased a brand new 2019 FLFBS. He bought the bike on September 21st, and it only took him a couple weeks to get in his 1,000 break-in miles. We’re a big fan of the Rawhide color he chose.

Now, he’s looking personalize his new Fat Boy and make it his own. Tampa Fatboy started out by modifying his bike with Carlini Menace Apes handlebars, as well as Vance & Hines Short Shots pipes. While he likes the look of the pipes, he’s not happy with the sound, so he’s looking to swap them for something else.

Apparently, Tampa Fatboy was originally looking to buy a Heritage Softail 114. He shows off his previous bike, a 2014 Softail Deluxe with a cammed out 103 and tall bars.

When he went into the dealership, something about this Rawhide Fat Boy just spoke to him. We can easily see why — it’s a stunning bike.

It’s a good looking bike, and we can see why he continued the tall handlebar theme for his newest build. Later in the thread, though, he posts a custom fat Boy that’s long, low, and short on shiny stuff. As it turns out, he may very well pick a much different theme for his bike in the long run.

However, he does plan on keeping the engine stock for a while. The aftermarket for the Milwaukee Eight is just warming up, and he’d like to keep his warranty somewhat intact.

A few other members chimed in to show off their bikes for inspiration. Chillis showed off his beautiful FLFB. Currently, it’s got a Sundowner saddle until the custom unit he commissioned is ready. He’s also wanting to install lower handlebars and a taller rear shock.

We’ve long said that the best part of Harley-Davidsons is that they’re easy to customize. This thread is living proof. A Harley-Davidson can be anything to anyone, and modified to suit anyone’s tastes. When your tastes change, they can be modified again, and again, and again!
