Are Road Glides the Most Smooth and Rockin’ Rides?

By -

SoCal’s Laidlaw’s Harley cranks up the infotainment system and hits the highway on one of ‘the most comfortable motorcycles money can buy.’

“As far as ride comfort, this bike is among the most comfortable motorcycles money can buy,” emphatically states Matt Laidlaw in his YouTube review of the 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra.

Pretty strong opinion. But as the sales manager for Southern California’s Laidlaw’s Harley-Davidson, a family business that has been hawking Harleys since 1958, Matt knows his bikes.

In his 41-minute review of the Road Glide Ultra, Laidlaw gives a detailed look at the features and ride quality of this staple bike in the Harley line-up. Laidlaw also gives an in-depth description of the Road Glide’s infotainment system. “It’s a really big feature and something that sets these bikes apart from some of the other competitors and some of the other motorcycles within the Harley-Davidson family,” he says.

Laidlaw’s review wouldn’t be complete without an 18-minute test-ride along scenic Southern California roads and freeways with a viewpoint from Laidlaw’s right shoulder. Cruising on the freeway, he says the bike offers “really good wind deflection… with very minimal amount of wind hitting me.”

Among the bike’s few cons, Laidlaw’s opinion is that “I really feel like this seat pushes you too far forward on the bike… Also, the [handle] bars, I’m not a huge fan. In 2015, they redesigned the bars and brought them in five inches closer to your body, which I think is too close.”

In Harley-Davidson’s official description of the bike, the company states, “If your dream is to go big, this could be the one for you. The Road Glide Ultra motorcycle combines the most wind-cheating fairing ever devised with the full complement of Harley-Davidson touring features, starting with an all-new Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine, all-new suspension, and powerful Reflex dual disc linked Brembo brakes. You get a Tour-Pak luggage carrier and saddlebags that open with one hand. The top of the line infotainment system. And mind-blowingly comfortable ride for your passenger. All built around the aggressive look of the Road Glide.”
