Whether you love or hate his style, his products, or his dogged determination Roland Sands has been a hot commodity in the last few years.

Major manufacturers have him customize their bikes and he constantly churns out his own with a new bike seemingly every quarter.

RSDFlat1Flat track style bikes are big in custom scene right now. Light, fast, and with good handling it’s easy to understand why.

There is such a rich history with the XR750 that emulating that by building a Sportster to look like the race bike just makes sense. Why is this such a hot product to do?

The XR750 in original form will run you upwards of $60,000 and that is before you try to make it road legal.

That makes it far easier to pick up a donor Sportster for under 5K and spend some money on parts, paint, suspension, and performance and still come out around 10K for a sweet handling and fast motorcycle.

Speaking of parts the Ameri-Tracker features some pretty slick upgrades. The biggest upgrade is done to the suspension. Fitted with Suzuki GSXR forks up front and Progressive Suspension 970 Series shocks out back. Custom triple trees take some rake out and put the rider more over the wheel like a real flat track bike.

The 19-inch wheels are Sands’ Del Mar designs, in ‘Machine Ops’ finish. Braking upgrades are courtesy Performance Machine calipers and Spiegler lines. The tires aee Dunlop DT3, a classic flat track race compound.

RSDFlat7What’s your take on the Flat Track style movement? Personally we are fans of the genres light, fast, and rowdy characteristics.
