Watch Your New VP Mike Pence Ride a Street Glide for Charity

Former Indiana governor and future vice president Mike Pence, made news back in July for taking a break from the campaign trail, and spending time on a Harley-Davidson Street Glide he borrowed from a friend. It wasn’t just for fun, however – this was a ride for charity.

The charity event called, Ride With the Governor, was started over a decade ago by previous governor Mitch Daniels. It’s a 100 mile ride designed to raise money for the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund to help soldiers and their families, as well as raise awareness for motorcycle safety.

The ride was organized by ABATE, American Bikers Aimed Towards Education, and over 100 motorcyclists participated. The route has changed over the years, and this year it started in downtown Indianapolis and carried bikers to Corydon, near the Kentucky border. Corydon was Indiana’s first state capital from 1816 to 1825.

While he rode motorcycles in his younger years, Pence needed a bit of practice before his first ride in 2013. With some help from ABATE, it was like he’d never stopped. It was important for him to continue the previous governor’s charity ride, and he joked that riding motorcycles was “required in the Constitution.” Now there’s a change we could all agree on!
