Default GPX routes to download

I've had my Ultra Limited for about 3 weeks now and I love it. Would like to plan some rides using the Boom navigation system. Prefer to download off the web and then upload to my system on the bike. Can anyone recommend some good websites which would help with this.

Thanks in advance,

I just recently started using www.sundaymorningrides.com

There are tons of .gpx routes for download. But I would recommend downloading them and opening them up on the computer first to make sure there aren't broken waypoints and such.

I have never been able to import GPX files from anywhere but Harley's Trip Planner website. I'll be watching this thread (since I'm too lazy to dig into the XML)

Harley Davidson Ride Planner works great.
http://www.harley-davidson.com/conte...-overview.html

Is darn near as easy as Google Maps.

Things to keep in mind when using the HD Ride Planner:

1. Our GPS uses waypoints, not tracks, so plan your route using waypoints in a strategic manner to ensure your desired route is taken. I drop in extra waypoints when I see possible alternative routes between two waypoints.

2. Try to only have one start and finish destination per day. Each time you add a destination on the left pane, it creates a whole new 'route'. I convert and that are not stop and end to waypoints by right click on the mapped location marker and 'convert to waypoint'.

3. Once you have your route all set, zoom wayyyy in on each waypoint to ensure the waypoint is on the road and not on some adjacent or parallel road you couldn't see when zoomed out. Drag and correct as needed.

4. When you export the route, save the route as a unique name, twice. The first one is how the file will appear in your GPS, the second is the file name itself so you can discern one file from another. I just 'save as' to name the file. If your browser just auto saves it, you can rename the file after it is saved using right click, rename.

5. Be sure your GPS is set to 'fastest' and not 'scenic' or any of the others. This is to make sure your GPS takes your intended route.

6. If you are taking highways and/or tollways, make sure your GPS is set to allow those roads in the 'avoidances' settings.

I use the Ride Planner A LOT and nearly all of my routes work without any issues. Every now and then I run into a waypoint that I overlooked that was on some side street. I just go to the three dots on the right side of the screen then select 'delete next waypoint' so it doesn't keep trying to have me 'touch' that waypoint. No big deal.

I use Harley Ride Planner and find it is very simple to use and works well too. MilesOfTexas has provided a good list of key points here to follow. I would like to stress the importance of #3 and to make sure you zoom way in on your route to check that your waypoints are not off the route.

+1

Yep, Ride Planner works just fine.
Have never had an issue, once I figured out the basics.

MilesOfTexas touched on the important ones. Follow that advice, and it will work very well.

also make sure you only import the file that you named it is normally the second file listed.
Do not import all.

I used ride planner and it's OK. The one thing I didn't like about it was not being able to name way points. If anyone can tell me how I'd like to know .

Last trip I used Tyre and it's just as easy if not easier and I could name way points.

Good Luck

I have been working with a site that I stumbled upon called rever - http://rever.co

Their routing and planning is MUCH easier than HD's planner, and they are working very hard to fix their GPX export feature (unfortunately the export is a paid thing-- but paying also upgrades you to see butler roads, a feature that has helped me find good bike roads near me that I wouldn't have known about previously).

In the next few days their GPX export should be correctly set up for route exports (previously they were output more optimized for track), which you should be able to just throw on a USB stick and pull the route exactly as you would want.

They also have mobile apps that allow you to catalog your rides, if you stumble upon something that you really like.

I have no affiliation with them, other than really thinking they have the best planning out there (I will have to try the sunday morning site that HarleyConvert mentioned).

There are two problems that I have found with most of the GPX sites- they either don't encode the trip as a "route", or they have too many points in the route. While working with their tech support to get the site to do the right thing, I found an app (http://www.gpsbabel.org) that can help with reducing the points in the route.

Over the past couple of weeks I have learned WAY MORE about gpx files than I ever cared to know. Feel free to PM me if you want more info about the files.

EDIT-

I just checked their site, and you can edit the names of the waypoints

I use HD ride planner not perfect but works you just have to play with it in the garage with charger plugged in an adult bev in your hand and spend some time with it. Only main thing throw you off is the GPS setting scenic, fastest or shortest which most of the time will interfere with your planned route. It's not simple and nothing is simple with any new gadget more you play with it more you learn.
