There is also another option, follow the instructions I did in the video, then repeat the google maps section for the next part of your route, create the GPX file in GPS Visualizer and then add the relevant parts of the file to the original you created.

There is a little bit of fiddly work involved, but its not difficult - I can do a similar video to demonstrate this too.

However, dragging the route around is the key reason I use Google Maps, the waypoints then become less of an issue anyway.
Exactly. Drag the route around. You should know where you want to stop anyway.

But keep in mind - Google Waypoints - as you are defining them, are destinations and not waypoints, and will become start and stop places when they are imported into the HD system and will be broken down into individual rides/routes.

When you drag a route in Gmaps, that dot you created to guide the route is a Waypoint - and you can have up to 100 of those now with the HD system. And of course unlimited in Gmaps.

A Waypoint is used to manipulate a route - in either Gmaps or HD Planner, it is not a "destination" - and you can have as many of those as you want in Gmaps - but the HD info system/GPS will only recognize 100 of them.

Tried to make a route with google maps and convert it to GPX via GPS Visualizer. Did not work out. I ended up have to use the harley website, and even then my trip was split in two.

Not sure what is going on.

Same here, Start point stop point and 8 stops in between (8 stops are waypoints). Did it on HD ride planer with no luck. Took me out to the first two waypoints then brought me back home.Bike GPS Skipped the other 6 waypoints. It"s not supposed to be this difficult.

Yes, pretty miserable system.

I even used the youtube tutorial for google maps in this thread with zero luck. The GPX file was created, plugged in to bike, clicked import, showed the file name, click it, and it just hangs up. Used HD Ride planner and at least it imported the route, but it broke it into two trips for some reason.

Default Google to GPX with Garmin 590LM HELP!

I read a LOT of the posts above, spent an embarrassing amount of time intently watching youtube vids and reading above and I can not get it to work.

It appears others are having the same difficulty.

I was wondering if it is the model GPS?

Anyone with the Garmin 590 have success going from Google Maps extension to the *.gpx using or not using GPSVizualizer?

EVERY time I have a file converted to *.gpx, load it into the GPS into the GPX folder, the Garmin does not find it.

Others routes I make conventionally and drop them into the Garmin it finds but NONE of Googles. ???

I use the HD rid planner and after playing with it for a short time have got it to work very well. When creating a route mark all points as destinations. Then go back and change them to waypoints by right clicking and selecting "change to waypoint". Zoom in each time you are creating a waypoint to position it properly. Very easy program to use if you spend a little time with it. Just like any program! Be patient and it works very good. Grant.

I think I finally got the HD ride planner to work. Like others have said create your route saving all stops other than your start & stop as waypoints. Save the route in ride planner that way then do the GPS sync in manual mode.Download it to a stick and it works. Created a 3400 mile Sturgis loop with a dozen waypoints. Looks like its working in the GPS.

When creating a route and you are not going the main roads, you will have to use destinations instead of waypoints or the Ride Planner Program will make your route go the shortest route and over ride your route. After you dictate with destinations the program will recognize the route you have chosen and you can change the destinations to waypoints. Read my post above for more info.

1) What is the purpose of that? Making all points as destinations only to change them to way points (except the 1st and last ones)?
2) Why load it onto the Garmin via the Manual Mode? I use auto and it works well. There a reason manual is btr?
3) Can u name a way point?
