Put the docking hardware on the new '15 RGS yesterday and went to install the detachable passenger backrest and ran into a problem. The backrest upright and pad were off of my '12 which my dealer parts man assured me were interchangeable, but when I went to install it, it was hitting the top of the shock on the right side. What is hitting is the metal below the rubber/plastic bushing that is in the "U" that it slides onto the forward mounting point. It will not let the "U" slide fully on and thus I can not latch it at the right rear latch. I looked at it 40 different ways, scratched my head numerous times, and always came to the same conclusion. That sucker ain't going on there.
Anyone else run into anything like this when carrying over any detachable equipment from earlier models???

A photo or two might help. Why just on the right side is what I'm wondering?
Yeah, didn't take any pics. But it is hitting only on the ride side. Maybe the fact that the right side shock is different than the adjustable one on the left plays into that. IDK
Going take the cage down to dealer Saturday to pick up some more goodies that had to be ordered. Will take the backrest with me and hopefully they will have someones in there that I can show them on what is happening.
Sorry, haven't been active on the forum for a while. Have a new Windows 8 laptop that I'm still not all that familiar with and just got a new phone that takes much higher resolution pics. Evidently I need to figure out how to resize the pics so they will be accepted. Off to work now so I will try to tackle that in the morning.
Used the backrest off my 09 SG for my 14 SGS. At first I had the same problem. I think it probably had conformed to the old 09's idiosyncrasies. Took me awhile to wrestle it on the first time but each time I put it back on it gets a little easier.
It will go on, keep at it.
Dirt - when mine didnt fit, i loosened the 4 point docking hardware, got the backrest wrestled on, then tightened the dock back up while the backrest was attached to it.
