I flash german cars everyday at a dealership. The scan tool does not care if there is a custom tune, it will over write whats in there. Detection is only for warranty purposes. Flash updates at maint services could create a lot of pissed people if they did not know it wasn't stock. TTS mastertune locks the ecm to avoid this problem. Some people have a problem with that, but it solves the accidental overwrite. Mike

So after calling the dealer and getting a free cup of joe you pay your $29.95 and leave with a free map of Austin. Did I get that right?

God I'm as funny as this thread is confusing and amusing! Good thing I already have a map, cup of coffee, and a bad memory.

That is some funny ****

Used to be software was a download, firmware was a replacement ROM swap (software burned on a write once, read many memory chip) and a hardware change would mean replacement of the entire ECM.
Yeah, for those of us who are old geeks "of a certain age", EPROM is the old name for what is now "firmware".

EPROM was the actual memory chip (Eraseable Programable Read Only Memory) and firmware was the computer code on the chip. Mike

Or is it an EEPROM since it is electronically erasable versus the ones in the "old days" where we had to use UV light to erase them?
