I guess that all depends where you live and how much you use the gps and how much construction their is in the town you live in. I made a route when I first got my bike, and driving down the road it kept saying recalculating , I guess the road was not paved when they made the map! My map says 2012.
I would not for another year or two cause I can't see paying for an update especially since it is such a P I A to use. If or when Harley works out some more of the bugs or makes it easier to use I may update it, I am just annoyed that you buy a 25++ grand motorcycle and you have to pay for the updates I mean you can buy a garmin on sale for a lot less, and get free life time map updates. Why can't harley?
Garmin updates are not free but they are reasonable. Think I paid around $100 for lifetime.

I was going to get a Garmin , for the bike or car, but use google maps in phone, and now bike has gps, but I have seen on their website it says I guess that some models come with lifetime maps????? I don't know since I did not buy one yet. does that mean you buy the unit , then buy the lifetime maps ? and pay only once???

You can buy a Garmin unit that has Lifetime maps. Those have LMT at the end of their name. If you buy one that does not have LMT, you can buy LMT for that unit. I have one Garmin that came with the LMT and one I bought the LMT for. When you buy the LMT for one that doesn't have it, it will lock to the unit you are buying it for when you activate it.
I have yet to update or upgrade my maps. Correct me if i am wrong but the 2014 boombox has the Canadian maps on them, dont they? Headed to BC in the fall and would like to depend on it, well sort of depend on it.
I have a 2014 Triglide. DB Q2 20130201. I have Canadian and US maps.
Guys, I hate to be so stupid but how do you navigate to the section that shows what version of the maps you have? I looked under Setup-Nav and Nav and can't find anything.

1. Turn ignition on.
2. Select Home > Setup > System Information > Navigation > Database
Will show the currently installed database version.
Thanks Rolla. Worked perfectly. Looks like I may have the oldest version in existence.
Mine was a May 14 bike.
Yes, it looks like you have the original release. I noticed on the navi extras site that all their maps, except for the US have been updated to 2014 2Q. The US is still the 2013 Q2. Maybe we can expect an update soon.
