I do not understand why they are including sales taxes in their price quotes. From what I can find, there is no law requiring them to collect sales taxes on out of state online sales. Soon this may change. The "Marketplace Fairness Act" is now in congress and if passed will require sales taxes to be collected at the buyers home tax rate, 180 days after passage.
The key here is that the law would require the seller to collect sales taxes at the buyers home sales tax rate and then send that tax to their state. In this case, they are collecting sales taxes as if all the buyers were in their home state. As stated, I cannot find any law requiring them to do this, they seem to be doing this on their own, for the benefit of St. Louis. If I am wrong, I will stand corrected.
Soon, I really believe our days of finding a Harley dealer willing to sell parts at 20% off, day in and day out, without collecting sales taxes will come to a close. Harley is really fighting it from what I have been told, Harley wants all the dealers to work with the Harley web site. My own local dealership has started ratcheting down discounts and then, only during one day special event sales. I have asked them to match Kutter prices and been turned down flat, and I was willing to pay the sales tax, was not asking for the same net price.
Might be the time to make major purchases for your bike from those dealerships willing to make you a deal.
Guys - I don't know the dealership or where they are located - however do know that it may not be uncommon to collect sales taxes for out of state purchases.
Try this - go to SAMsclub.com, orger something on line and put it in your cart. Look at the price - it includes sales taxes. it does so because my state requires taxes be paid on these items.
Surdyke price at checkout $455.96 free shipping no tax. kutter is showing the same kit at $472.
569.95 X 80% = $455.96
On the page before checkout it DOES show what the price would be if you went to ANOTHER dealer, paid tax and got no discount. At checkout it is a straight 20% off no tax.
There may be some states that require them to collect tax, but not mine.

That's because Sam's club has stores in most states. If a retailer has a store in the buyers state you must collect sales tax. Kutter would collect sales taxes from buyers in Wisconsin, but not Ohio for example.

I checked a Hammock seat one hour ago and the discount was less than 20%.
I've ordered from Surdyke in the past, this is NOT what they did in the past, I did see on the latest email that was how they posted the prices now. They give the retail plus the sales tax, something new. I doubt I'll be ordering from them again. Harley has been pushing real hard against the discount on line guys, I saw Kutter is not always 20% off on all items any more, many now work out to 15%. Still a savings.
