Default Rear fender help

I have run into a minor issue with my 15 RK rear fender. There's a round, black plastic hole plug of some kind right below the license plate, that I want to remove and paint to match the fender color. I cannot figure out how to remove it. It looks like it might be part of the bolt that holds the fender to the fender bracket, so I removed the nut from the bolt but that did not seem to free anything up. I can't find anything in the service manual about it, and of course don't want to try to force it or pry it off to result in almost certain damage. I did try to tap on the end of the bolt and may have bent it slightly doing so.

Has anyone here run into this or know the trick to get this thing off? Thanks in advance, as always, for any and all advice. Maybe I should have gone with Vivid Black again!

On my 2009, that cover was stuck on with an adhesive.

Were you able to remove it? I've thought about taping it off, then making a large cardboard mask to shield the rest of the bike and paint it attached.

It sticks on as mentioned - the bolt as it were is welded to the fender.

I took silver paint to match my bike and just painted over it. The bike comes with a plastic piece that has a reflector on it that normally covers that plug. The piece attaches to the license plate bracket.

Thanks all, I think I'll probably give up on removing it and just carefully paint it as mentioned. Sure seems like HD could have designed a cleaner solution.

Here's what I ended up with to solve the hideous rear fender bolt cover thing - not an exact color match, but close enough to blend in and not detract. I think I can live with it this way indefinitely!

Maybe a medallion or a "spot" you get from a dealer or great destination could be glued on to that? Someone has got to make a cool skull medallion.

Yeah I thought about a shop dot or spot or maybe a CVO-sized medallion. Not part of the skull community!
