Default Questions about installing new bars

I'm getting ready to install 10" apes on my bike and have a few questions for those that have done this.
Did you use\have the service manual? I don't have one so was there anything in there that really helped you or you couldn't have done the job without?

Do you need to cut power? if so did you do this by pulling a fuse or unhook battery leads?

Last question is about removing and installing the switch housings.
I started to take apart the housing and it did not seem to just come apart easy. again any trick or tips for removing the switch housing and clutch and break levers?

The manual always helps.

Yes I would cut power by pulling the main fuse.

On the left housing, unplug the wires from the caddy in the front of the stereo and pull the grip and housing off as one unit. The throttle side has a little ratchet like clip that you unhook and spread open the housings.

I did not have a manual at the time, there is a lot of info in the forum (search it), i do have a manual now thou lol , it would be prudent to get a manual

I did not, but it would be wise-pull the fuse.

Last question is about removing and installing the switch housings.
You do not need to remove the main ignition switch just remove the cover.

there are great threads on this subject, this one has great pics:

I changed mine out using just the thread quoted above. The dealer was out of manuals and I didn't want to wait. That thread is excellent, with good pictures. It took just under 4 hours, including clean up time for the parts before reinstallation.

Thanks all for your advice, I always feel better about doing stuff like this after looking at post like the ones you have shared. I plan on doing a time-laps video when I do mine. I will be sure to share.

Note there is a wiring discrepancy with the manual, the link above address this with a hand drawn schematics. If your instating bars with 90degree binds such as la choppers or yaffes the install time increases drastically also the 90degree creates issues with the throttle wiring connection (ie green connector) there's been more than one broken.
I would have appreciated a video when I was searching info as you are. Good luck
