It's only a little louder but it is higher pitched. I prefer a deeper bass sound.

Default Yea yea

I put rineharts on with cat still in
I really like the sound.
With cat out
I think to loud with any other pipes besides stock.
I have the header without cat hanging on wall ready to replace.
But really think the sound is just right with cat in and rineharts.

I didn't think that there was much difference. However a co-worker said as soon as I pulled in the parking lot he knew right away that I had done something with the exhaust.

If you want that "in between" volume I would leave the stock head pipes and do slip-ons. I have the 4" Rineharts and I think they look great and sound just right. Deep sound when you twist the throttle, but pleasant at cruising speed.

I put the power tune duals headers and 4" Rineharts with competition baffels and it is still not loud but has a very deep tone. I think the difference is the stock system being designed around the cat where headers are not.

One more thing to consider. From 2010 on the touring bikes have the O2 sensors at the junction of the front and rear pipe just before the cat. Earlier models had the O2 near the head. When you remove the cat, the O2 sensors start getting "crosstalk". That means they can't read the O2 as well since the two pipes now mixing signals. This does effect the operation of the O2 system.
