After the initial 1,000 mile break-in oil change which I use Harley regular oil, I change it again at 5,000 mile intervals starting at the 5,000 mile mark. I switch to the synthetic oil at the first 5,000 mile oil change also. Harley synthetic oil in all three holes.
But that's just me and everybody will do it differently.
Thanks for the advice guys! I'll do the search and try to read thru all the opinions. I never heard the "holes" slang but that's funny. I'm also curious though, are spark plugs really that short lived compared to cars? I would've thought fuel injection helps versus carbs but of course I get the better safe than sorry philosophy.
im using harley reg oil due changed at 1000, 2500, now due at 5k am considering using the best reviewed synthetic oil and will change that prob every 2500. may due all holes every 2500. Havent figured out if its more cost effective to do more frequent oil changes or follow manufacturers intervals. More frequent means tensioners and other parts will last longer before needing a replacement at a recommended interval
I think alot of people on here run synthetic oil of sometype. i run syn 3 inall 3 holes. 5000 mi between changes. easy to keep track of to. 5 10 15 20 and so on
Air cooled engines run hotter and are harder on the plugs. HD recommends replacement at 30K. I replace at 20K. You invested 20K+ the cost of two plugs once a year for most riders is a small price to pay for performance, longevity and fuel economy.
