I was thinking that I could put heat demons on my 14 FLHXS but I didn't want the unsightly controller. I was thinking of using the comm switch off of a 14 ultra low. Does anyone know if it's possible?

Pretty much doubt it. That switch is part of a modular assembly & uses CANBUS signals.
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I kinda like the controller and the Heat Demons are awesome. They will cook your hands on the coldest days. Supposed to be much better than the HD versions.
So why don't you use the HD Slipstream Heated Hand Grips-56100027 or the Streamliner Heated Hand Grips-56100047 that are pretty much plug and play? Trying to install Heat Demons under and Twist Grip Sensor have been problematic.

+1 ^ just added the HD grips to my 14, plug and play.

Heat Demon now has a warmer for the throttle side than is thinner than a piece of paper. It has a 3M sticky side that you apply directly to the twist grip sensor. It's like a piece of packaging tape. I had the original rolled aluminum heater installed in my stock bars, but I just installed the Harley reduced reach bars that are 1/16" smaller inside diameter and the rolled aluminum warmer would not fit so I ordered the new warmer and it slid right in and works just as good. The kits now include the thinner warmer.

I thought the reduced reach bars were the same diameter as the standard bars... has been confirmed on this forum many times.
The more I think I have this figured out the more confused I get.

They are the same outside diameter but the inside is slightly smaller, they must use heavier wall tubing due to the longer length and the slots they have cut in them, trust me I really tried to reuse the original warmer but it just wouldn't go. It was pretty snug going into the stock bars so when I measured the new bars I figured I was going to have trouble. Only cost another $25..lol
